Feeding Program in Kenya

Our First School Opens!

With the help and assistance from VICDA based in Kenya.  World Teacher Aid is thrilled to announce that school has officially opened and is now home to over 600 students from the small community of Nakuru.  The school has eight classrooms, an admin block and bathrooms.   The exciting part is that it is now being funded (teachers salaries) by the Kenyan Government.

Huge thank you to everyone who participated in helping raise funds through the Write To Give Program and our annual Gala. Also, a BIG thank you to those donors who contributed enough to build one classroom.  Thank you to David Frey, Armand and Mariana Morin, Russell and Collete Brunson, Mark Jenny, The Bader family, Justin Bowen, Jeff Dedrick and Bill Harrison.

Our next project is working on the completion of a high school for the community.

If you could like to donate funds to help with the school, please donate on line, or email Amy at amy@worldteacheraid.org.

The Community!

The builders are presently working on the roof and adding windows and doors to the first set of classrooms.

Teacher Scholarship Program – Uganda

We are currently sponsoring two teachers in Uganda.  As part of our program, he has been asked to write an email 2 – 3 times a month highlighting new information about the school, sending us pictures and updates.  Below is an email from Moses, our sponsored teacher.  Angelo, is Springs of Hope Principal/Director.  He also updates us on  monthly basis.

Check out the emails below:

Hello,

It was a lovely month of April at our school here in Uganda, we had some sports activities were our students competed very well in there houses and I should say that since I was heading everything, I was unable to have a house of my own that I would cheer for I would be biased at some point. The kids enjoyed every single bit of that day, sports is a very good thing that every school should have.

Other than that the whole school has been fine as we have come to a small break which will take about three weeks then the children will be back at school. They have been able to do end of term one exams and I must say they have done pretty well and am proud of them.

As my life is concern, it has been fine and that gives me hope that things here will keep getting better and better. We are looking forward to the next term which starts in three weeks.

Lastly I would like to thank you all for the wonderful things you are doing for me, I feel that things are better than before and that my life has been changed because of you.

Have a lovely weekend.

Moses.

Working Towards a  Sustainable Feeding Program for Springs of Hope High School in Uganda

This past December we purchased a cow for the school we support in Uganda.  Our aim is for the students to look after the cow and use the milk for their Feeding/Breakfast Program.  Any additional milk will be used to sell in the community, in turn generating profits for the school.  We look forward to updating you on this project soon.

Student Aid Package Ghana

King William communicates with us on a regular basis.  At the beginning of our sponsorship King William sent his report card to show us his academic progress and to continue for us to support him.  However, I am proud to say that this relationship has grown and now he is now a big part of our Write to Give Program.

King William is now our main contact and the artist behind our Write to Give bracelets.

For our second annual Write to Give Day, coming up on May 6th, 2010 King William has already started to make the bracelets.  We have 750 of them sitting downstairs and he is working on 750 more!  I am expecting the shipment any day now.

For more information on his bracelets or to order a bracelets.  Please go to www. WritetoGive.org and look in our Gift Shop.
