You’ll need your passport. We recommend also taking a photocopy of it and your drivers license to carry with you wherever you go.
In addition, you’ll need to get a Kenyan travel Visa. The good news is, you can pick one of these up in the airport when you arrive. The cost is $25 USD and you’ll need to pay in cash.
–
Will I need to get any shots or immunizations?
Roughly 3 months prior to each trip we visit a travel doctor who then provides us a recommended list of shots we should get along with a time table for taking them. This is something we recommend you do as well.This is a suggestion of what may be needed – please consult with your medical professional or travel specialist for more details.
* Hepatitis A & B
* Polio
* Typhoid
* Yellow Fever
* Diphtheria and tetanus
* Meningococcal (meningitis)
* Cholera
* Malaria (needs to be closely discussed with doctor)
* Tuberculosis
Some of these can be taken in oral form so please discuss with your doctor to see what is best for you. Some people can be affected quite differently to others by medication.
–
Do I need to get travel insurance?
As with any overseas traveling, insurance is highly recommended.
–
What kind of clothing should I bring?
The temperature during August will be warm and sunny during the day (usually 20-28 degrees C or 68-82 degrees F) but will cool off quite considerably at night (usually 10-15 degrees C or 50-59 degrees F).
So it’s advised to bring light colored, cotton clothing that modestly covers your body (knee-length or longer). We also advise bringing older cloths that you don’t mind getting dirty for when we are at the school building site.
Likewise, you’ll also want to bring comfortable, sturdy footwear, a pair of sandals for light walking as well as some long pants, and a couple long sleeve/sweaters for night time.
Finally, don’t forget to also pack sunglasses and a hat (these are very important because the sun during the day can be very intense).
–
Is there anything else you recommend I pack for this trip?
There are a few extra things we recommend you bring:
- Sun lotion (you’ll definitely need this during the day – the Kenyan sun is VERY intense)
- Mosquito net (you might want this as extra protection against the mosquitos at the school building site)
- Bug repellent
- Extra camera batteries
- Money belt
- Photo copies of your passport and drivers license
- Work gloves (for the school)
- Any extras you may want to give to the school children (Stu usually brings a bunch of soccer balls and Amy brings school supplies)
–
What is the payment policy?
If you have not paid in full, here is the following payment plan:
Payment #1: $1500
Payment #2: $1500
NOTE: There is a $1,000 non-refundable deposit.
–
What if I have to cancel – can I get a refund?
Due to the size of our group and the regulations of the Safari camps and hotels, $1,000 is non-refundable.
A $1,500 refund is available up until March 2012.
