Partnering with Kenya

The past summer months have been busy monitoring our progress in Ghana, Uganda and El Salvador. Things are going well in all countries where we have provided assistance in teacher’s salaries and feeding programs at the schools.

Global Volunteer Network has been a huge help implementing our programs.  Here is how they are helping us now.

Global Volunteer Network have been a tremendous help in implementing our programs. We are consistently in communication making sure the communities needs are being met. Earlier this summer I spoke to Courtney, my contact within GVN and expressed that we would like to help out further this fall and next year. Due to the success of the Feeding Program in Ghana, we wanted to implement the program elsewhere. Courtney had just come back from a work related trip to Kenya. Due to the political situation a number of children have been left to fend for themselves and as a result orphanages are running out of room and don’t have enough food to feed the children.

Courtney put me directly in contact with Volunteer International Community Development Africa (VICDA). You can check out their web site at: www.vicda.org. They are currently feeding hundreds of children a day and are still in need of assistance. The past few weeks I have been working with them to pick an ideal location where we could help out.

We have decided to help out at Mama Tunza Orphanage/School. Mama Tunza is a school by day and an orphanage by night. Staring in September we will assist in a feeding program to feed just over 200 students a day. This only costs $300 a month. With our support children will be able to get a cup of porridge with an egg or a cup of tea with some bread.

I have pasted some pictures below for you to look at.

We are looking forward to helping Kenya one school at a time :)
